El propósito de este artículo apunta a discutir actuales\conceptualizaciones sobre el patrimonio confrontándolas con referentes\empíricos concretos. Las modificaciones –relevantes– que se han ido\produciendo en la problemática del patrimonio cultural, su conceptualización\como “construcción social” y su definición como “herencia cultural” han\ampliado la discusión y conducido a la profundización de otras dimensiones\del mismo. En un sentido el concepto se ha “democratizado”, no obstante por\una parte las modificaciones operadas, generadas y aceptadas en medios\académicos, organismos internacionales, son asimilados lentamente por los\poderes públicos; por otra parte, la confrontación de las definiciones vigentes\con referentes empíricos concretos (que se apartan de alguna manera de aquellos\“tradicionalmente” incluidos en la categoría de “patrimonio”) permite visualizar\que ciertos nudos problemáticos en el tratamiento del patrimonio se ubican en\los criterios con los cuales se ha construido y se construye en la actualidad el\mismo. De esta manera se torna dudosa la efectividad de la “democratización”\del concepto en la medida en que no se pongan en discusión los fundamentos\de la definición.\ABSTRACT\The objective of this paper is to discuss current conceptualizations of\heritage, contrasting them with concrete empirical referents. The relevant\modifications affecting cultural heritage problems, their conceptualization as\“social construction” and their definition as “cultural heritage” have expanded\the analysis and led to a deeper investigation of other heritage dimensions. In\a sense, the concept has been “democratized”; regardless of the changes\operated, generated and accepted among scholars and international agencies,\public authorities are slowly absorbing it. Also, a contrast of current definitions\with concrete empirical referents (somehow deviating from those “traditionally”\included in the “heritage” category) allows to understand that certain\problematic nodes in heritage treatment belong to the criteria on which heritage\has been and is being constructed.
